Canning hot cereal in mason jars?

I was wondering if you can can already made hot cereal in canning jars? I read one place that you can but did not give alot of info on it. If so, does it have to be just plain oats & wheats or can you add butter and sugar? Can it be any hot cereal? And how long is it shelf life(stays good)? Please answer only if you know the answer.
